The rare times I have visited a hairdressers they have well and truly ruined my hair, so I nearly always cut my hair myself. I've seen people get utterly stupid hair cuts done professionally, but because I cut mine myself, even though it DOES look good, the people in my class make fun of me, verging on mild bullying.
I want to know why people see it as a bad thing to cut your own hair. Is it just snobbery? If any of you have had similar experiences please write them here.
Wierd question, I know, but I'm tired of having my self-esteem knocked because I don't pay a lot of money for the same thing I can get free.
Thanks,
Kuchiki

It is just being snobby...going to the salon, especially an expensive one is seen as some kind of "wealthy" activity. I go to the salon myself because I can't cut my hair....but if you can and it looks good, more power to you. I wish I could.

Kuchiki, I think more of you because you can cut your hair successfully. I have tried and made a disaster of it.

I cut my own hair all the time, I know how it feels. Just ignore them. They'll go away.

Good for you to cut your own hair! The people who are making fun of you are just jealous because you have a talent that they don't have.
I would never cut my own hair again - the one time I tried I made a huge mess of it. But you should be proud that you can do it and look good!
If anyone asks who did your hair - tell them you have a personal stylist and her name is none of their business. You don't need to open yourself up to their derision!
Chin up - eventually you will be done with school and you'll never have to put up with the idiots again!

I cut and color my own hair, I just don't tell anyone. If any one asks I just tell them it was a family friend. I'm not paying someone $25-$75 for something I can do on my own for free. If a new style comes out that I really like I will go have it done at a saloon and then just copy what they did to keep it up. Just ignore them.

It is snobbery plain and simple. Don't mind it. I haven't cut my hair at a salon in 20 years or more - once your friends are mature they'll stop.
