Why are people over 40 so terrible at cutting hair?

I cut my hair every 10 days. My hair grows very fast. I try to keep my dirty blond hair as hip as I can. I know hair is sometimes more important than clothes; I'm an expert in hair waxes and products. I always get terrible cuts from older people. I used to cut my hbair with a guy who gave me great cuts, but he quit, and I was stuck with an old woman who gave horrible cuts. I tried elsewhere, and this girl gave me great cuts, but quit, and an old lady began cutting my hair; I had terrible cuts for months. I tried different places, sometimes I got good cuts sometimes not, then I realized older people are the ones who always give me bad cuts. For a while, I was getting great cuts at this barber shop, but today I was stuck with a bald old barber. He had no mercy, he cut all my hair so short I can't spike it.

Old people just cut it, they don't stop to think one tries to be attractive with a good cool cut.

They are old, but can't they remember that good hair makes one feel attractive?

LOL, I gotta agree with you there. Not always, but enough. For one, they've probably been doing it 20 years and are completely burnt. Same thing, day in and day out. And when you get older, you definitely lose touch a bit with what's hip and what looks good now as opposed to what looked sorta good last decade. We all get set in our ways. A little more conservative and less willing to take risks and learn new techniques. I also notice they're usually the ones with the most frazzled, badly styled, badly colored hair. Do they let students experiment on them? That I do not understand...I would think most stylists would at least look chic in some decade, but I see so many with bad, bad hair. What really surprises me is how often I've had my hair damaged by stylists I think would know better after working so many years. Conservative is one thing, over processing is another. Funny thing is, they seem to give great advice and know what they're talking about...but not always act on it. All this being said, I still trust the older ones a hell of a lot more than the younger ones. They *do* in general know what they're doing, and what to do when things go wrong, which is vital on colored hair. I shudder to think of what the 20 somethings at Supercuts would do to my double processed hair....

Why are people over 40 so terrible at cutting hair?

It just seems to me that maybe they aren't up to date with all the latest hair cutting techniques that are taught in hair dressing college today.

That said, I've had good and bad hair cuts from younger people and older people.

That's not true. I go to someone that's about 46 and she cuts my hair perfect every single time. I get compliments on how stylish and cute my hair looks all the time. Age has nothing to do with it. Sounds like your just going to bad salons.

Why are people over 40 so terrible at cutting hair?

That's not entirely true... A few of my stylists, Joni, Oscar, Bonnie, they are all over the age of 40 and every time I go to them I love my cut because they have so much experience. You should try going back to cutting your own hair.

my boyfriends mom is a hair stylist and shes over 40 and she does a great job!!! shes always taking classes to keep herself updated and she does seem young for her age but its not fair to generalize, because shes phenomenal at what she does!

I guess you are just finding the wrong old one. I have seen young hair stylist that give terrible hair cuts %26amp; also don't listen to anything that you asks them to do. Sometime young one's think that everyone whats to be trendy %26amp; have the latest style (even if it's blue), but not everyone works in a place where any style goes. .

If you have a 20 year old that gives you great haircuts, after 20 year of cutting your hair and 1,000's of others, are you then going to get a horrible hair cut from her/him?

I've been in this business 25 years, I have employed young and old. In looking back I had more older stylist than younger one's give a better hair cut. I have fixed bad haircuts from other young hair stylist that didn't have a clue what they were doing. My guess is that the biggest problem is that only 25% of hair stylist can give a good haircut. Maybe they just need a good pair of scissors. http://www.salonstylehair.com/

Hair cutting is a talent, you either have it or you don't (if you don't it takes a lot of work and some do get good). Young hair stylist that give good hair cuts will be giving great haircut as they get older, if they continue to cut hair though the years.

I'm over 40 I have some clients that drive over 150 miles for there haircuts %26amp; other services. .I give a great haircut.
