Cutting my own hair, any advice?

Okay so I've been getting my hair cut short for a while now but lately I've been letting it grow out. I'm a girl but I want to cut my hair in an Emo/sene boys cut. Preferably a look that's kinda short in the back with long bangs swept to the side. Now I don't want anyone telling me "don't cut your own hair get it done professionally" or anything like that. I know I could end up completely screwing up my hair but I don't care. What I want to know is if anyone has any advice on how I should go about doing this. My hair is shoulder length and my bangs go down to my chin. So... any ideas?

Cutting my own hair, any advice?

What I do when I cut my own hair is hold the scissors directly upward while you are snipping the ends off to create that "choppy" look. To get the side sweep bangs, sweep your bangs the direction you want them to go and cut them that way. I like to use a razor (yes, the one you use on your legs) for this part in a sort or sawing motion (or hold the hair out and "shave it off" by the strands), or any other area that needs texturizing. Length is the tough part to cut, mostly because it is really easy to cut too much. Most importantly, is to have fun while you do it, don't be nervous, and remember that it is just hair and it WILL grow back.

Good Luck!
